CONTACT LENSES

Contact lenses are an effective way of providing clear and comfortable vision. New technology and lens materials mean that contact lenses have never been so comfortable or affordable. Although not everyone is able to wear contact lenses there is likely to be a contact lens suitable for your vision, lifestyle and budget

Tarbutt Optometrists provide a comprehensive range of Soft and Gas Permeable contact lenses.

WHAT TYPES OF CONTACT LENSES ARE AVAILABLE?

The type of contact lenses that are most suitable for you will depend on your lifestyle, hobbies, employment and prescription.

  • Gas Permeable lenses are often suggested if you have a large amount of astigmatism or if your eyes require more oxygen. Initially theses lenses can be more uncomfortable than soft lenses but adaptation does not usually take long and these lenses tend to last longer than soft lenses.

  • Soft lenses are larger than Gas Permeable lenses and made from a more flexible material. They are usually very comfortable to wear and easy to get used to. Soft lenses must be cleaned regularly and replaced more frequently.

  • Disposable soft lenses are usually replaced regularly on either a monthly, fortnightly or weekly basis ensuring that your lenses stay fresh, clean and comfortable. These still require some cleaning and maintenance.

Soft lenses can also be worn on a daily disposable basis; lenses are worn for one day and then thrown away. These lenses are ideal for patients who would like to wear lenses occasionally or regular wearers who do not want to use cleaning solutions and care products.

  • Extended wear lenses can be worn for up to 30 days without lens removal or cleaning. Patients can sleep in these lenses and awake to clear vision 24 hours a day. These new lenses are made possible by new lens materials and improved knowledge about the eye's physiological response during sleep.

  • Bifocal and multifocal contact lenses are also available at Tarbutt Optometrists – if you need help with reading, these lenses and a variety of other contact lens options are available.

I'VE NEVER WORN CONTACTS- WHAT DO I DO?

If you would like to try contact lenses you will need to arrange for a comprehensive eye examination and a contact lens assessment. During these examinations our optometrists will discuss various types of lenses suitable for the shape of your eye and your visual requirements.

Tarbutt Optometrists offer a complementary Contact Lens Trial Programme in conjunction with a routine vision assessment and eye health examination. Following a vision eye health examination, to establish an up to date prescription, trial contact lenses would be fitted to the eyes and normally would be worn for most of the day. At the end of this time a short appointment is made to discuss the suitability of the lenses.

Should you decide not to proceed with the contact lenses, the only cost incurred is that of the routine vision assessment and eye health examination. There is no cost for the contact lenses fitted and tried.

If you proceed with the contact lenses, the procedure is to assess the fitting and order the lenses. On arrival of the lenses there would be a teaching appointment followed by after-care appointments.

Make an appointment today to see if contact lenses are suitable for your prescription and lifestyle.

If you wear contact lenses it is important to attend for regular aftercare appointments so we can carefully monitor the health of your eyes and ensure that we are offering you the best care and lens options for your requirements. Contact lenses can only be supplied if you have a current prescription.
